Foster Care Independence Program
The Chafee Foster Care Independence Program (CFCIP) assists youth in successfully transitioning from the foster care system, CFCIP provides ongoing support for independent living, through community youth meetings, one-on-one life skills training, connecting youth with community resources and providing tools for setting and pursuing goals.
Chafee offers assistance with finding Educational Programs, Financial Aid, Housing, Employment, and Life Skills training.

Am I Eligible?
To be eligible for the Chafee Foster Care Independence Program (CFCIP) services, the youth must be:
- Currently in out-of-home care, fifteen (15) up to eighteen (18) years of age, and in out-of-home placement for a minimum of six (6) months. Consecutive months are not required.
- Age sixteen (16) to twenty-one (21), who meet requirements for Relative Guardianship Assistance and entered Relative Guardianship on or after age sixteen (16)
- Age sixteen (16) to twenty-one (21), who meet requirements for Adoption Assistance and entered Adoption Assistance on or after age sixteen (16);
- Age eighteen (18) to twenty-one (21), who were in out-of-home care on their eighteenth (18th) birthday.
