COVID-19 VACCINE OPENED FOR 70+ BY GOVERNOR POLIS
Pueblo Planning Vaccinations
Wednesday, December 30, 2020- Governor Polis announced individuals 70 years and older will be moved to a higher priority for vaccinations and will now be eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine in the first phase of the vaccination process.
Pueblo Department of Public Health and Environment is currently working with the Pueblo County Emergency Operations Center to plan COVID-19 Vaccination clinics for individuals 70+ in Pueblo. It is expected that the first vaccines will be available for this population soon. The timelines will depend on the volume of vaccine that Pueblo receives in the coming weeks.
“Vaccinating our community members who are age 70 and above is a critical and prudent strategy to reducing the devastating impacts of this virus on our community. We know that those in this age group have disproportionately higher adverse health impacts, hospitalizations, and deaths from the COVID virus,” stated Randy Evetts public health director at the Pueblo Department of Public Health and Environment.
As of today, Pueblo is fulfilling Phase 1a and completing the vaccination of frontline healthcare workers and long-term care residents and staff. Phase 1b includes EMS personnel, first responders, COVID response personnel and will now also include those age 70 or above.
Evetts noted, “there are a significant number of people in Phases 1a and 1b and it will take several weeks to complete the vaccinations for those in these phases.”
Currently, the community is receiving both Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. Both vaccines require two vaccinations 21-28 days apart. Full immunity is reached approximately 10-15 days following the second vaccination.
Timeline for vaccines is subject to change based on supply chain; prioritization subject to change based on data, science, and availability.
The community is encouraged to get information from accurate sources to know when the vaccine is available for your age group and phase you qualify. Stay tuned to pueblohealth.org/covid19, Pueblo’s COVID Information Line 719-583-4444, Facebook @PuebloHealth, and local media.
