The County Attorney is a County Officer created by the Colorado Constitution, and by State statute appointed by the Board of County Commissioners.
The County Attorney's Office provides legal advice and representation to the Board of County Commissioners, elected officials, county departments, and other agencies when authorized by the Board of County Commissioners. The office handles all civil matters for Pueblo County, including civil litigation, land use, employment issues, property tax, election issues and contracts.
The County Attorney's Office provides advice and representation to the Department of Social Services and handles dependency and neglect cases, adult service matters and other civil matters related to the Department. The office also files civil claims for enforcement of child support orders on behalf of the Department.
This office does not handle enforcement of the criminal code, which is the responsibility of the District Attorney's Office for the 10th Judicial District.
