Mobile Units (Food Trucks)
For food vending out of a mobile unit (food truck, ice cream truck, etc.), a separate plan review packet is required. A plan review fee applies, and the subsequent licensing fee will be determined by operations. The plan review takes a minimum of 14 business days to complete. An inspection of the proposed mobile unit (all equipment working and present) must be completed before operations begin.
Most mobile units will not be fully contained, and it is likely that vendors must use a commissary.
Commissaries are essential to mobile unit operations because they provide the missing equipment and space needed for proper storage and preparation. The mobile plan review includes a Commissary Agreement to be filled out and signed by the commissary owner.
Mobile Plan Review Packet: If food vending is to take place out of a mobile unit (food truck, ice cream truck, etc), a separate mobile plan review packet is required. The mobile plan review is tailored for food production in a limited space and of a limited amount. Physical facilities, equipment requirements, and water availability are the main requirements of the packet.
Mobile Renewals
To receive next year’s Retail Food License for your mobile unit (food truck, push-cart, ice cream truck, etc.) your unit must first undergo a routine inspection. Licenses will only be issued once the inspection is successfully completed. If you know your assigned inspector, feel free to contact them directly to schedule your inspection. Alternatively, you can use our convenient new online scheduling tool to book an appointment and bring in your unit for inspection. Inspections can be booked all year; please ensure you schedule this inspection and obtain your license before operating in the new year.
Once your unit passes the inspection you can pay the fee and immediately receive your license and sticker for the year. Please see our Self-Inspection Checklist for inspection requirements.
