The Colorado EBT card holds benefits for SNAP food assistance and for many cash assistance programs.

When are benefits issued?

Benefits are deposited to your card the same day every month.  Unused benefits are carried over to the next month.  The chart below indicates when your monthly benefits will be deposited to your card.

Your Colorado EBT Card and Personal Identification Number (PIN) are the keys to getting your benefits.  If the card and PIN are lost or stolen your benefits could be lost.  Lost or stolen benefits will not be replaced.

EBT Card setup instructions:

Before you can use your card, you must select a 4-digit Personal Identification Number (PIN).  To set up your card:

  • Visit www.ebtEDGE.com online and enter your 16-digit card number.
  • Select a 4-digit PIN that you can remember but will not be easy for others to guess. You will need this PIN to utilize the card.
  • Do not write your PIN on the card or store your PIN and EBT cards together.
  • Sign the back of your card.

Using your EBT card

The Colorado EBT card can be used to buy food and get cash if you receive cash benefits.  You can use the card wherever you see the QUEST logo

There is never a fee for using your EBT card for SNAP purchases. A $.32 fee will be charged each time you withdraw cash benefits from an ATM. Additional ATM surcharges may apply.

Buying Groceries

  • Select EBT on the merchant’s terminal and enter your 4-digit PIN
  • Choose which benefit account to charge if asked (SNAP or cash)
  • Keep your receipt.  Your current account balance is listed at the bottom.

If the merchant’s terminal is not working the transaction will be processed manually.  The cashier will complete a form that you will sign. Keep a copy of the form for your receipt.

Your EBT card can be used for these SNAP benefits:

  • Foods for your household, such as
    • Breads and cereals
    • Fruits and vegetables
    • Meats, fish, and poultry
  • Seeds and plants which produce food for the household

Your EBT card CANNOT be used to purchase:

  • Beer, wine, liquor, cigarettes or tobacco
  • Pet foods
  • Vitamins and medicines
  • Food to be eaten at the store or hot foods
  • Any nonfood items such as:
    • Soaps, paper products
    • Household supplies
    • Cleaning products

EBT card usage is prohibited at:

  • Places licensed to sell malt, vinous or spirited liquors, including retaining liquor stores, brewpubs, and bars
  • Places where you can gamble such as casinos, race tracks or bingo halls
  • Places that offer adult-oriented entertainment including adult video store, strip clubs, and peep shows
  • Places whose primary business the sale of firearms

Using your EBT card to get cash

If you receive cash benefits you may use your card to withdraw cash from an ATM or receive cashback with an authorized food purchase.

Withdrawing from an ATM

  • Insert your card and enter your 4-digit PIN
  • Select Withdraw from Checking
  • Enter the amount of cash you need
Cashback with purchase
  • Select EBT on the merchant’s terminal and enter your 4-digit PIN
  • Choose to charge your cash account
  • Tell the cashier the amount of cash you want or enter the amount on the terminal

Options for cash payments

If you receive cash assistance you have the option to receive cash payments by direct deposit to a savings or checking account.  We also offer a KeyBank Prepaid Debit Card.  Please see your county office for more information about these options.

How to care for your card

Your Colorado EBT card should last for several years. Eligible benefits are loaded onto the same card every month.

  • Keep your card clean and store in a safe place, away from magnetics or electronics
  • Do not leave your card in direct sunlight
  • Select A PIN that is easy for you to remember but hard for others to guess. Do not use easy PINs such as “1234”, “9999”, “1212” etc
  • Do not write your PIN on your card or store it with your card
  • Never share your PIN with anyone
  • Do not guess your PIN.  IF you enter the wrong PIN four times your card may be locked until the next day.

Authorized Representative

You may choose a person, called an Alternate Cardholder to get your benefits for you.  To assign an Alternate Cardholder:

  • You must provide written authorization to the Alternate Cardholder you wish to designate
  • The Alternate Cardholder must visit the local Human Services office and provide that written authorization to the representative there
  • Choose a person you trust.  Lost or stolen benefits will not be replaced.
Incorrect Transactions

If a retailer is paid either too much or too little from your EBT card account due to a computer error, a correction may be made to your balance.

  • The correction could impact your current or next month’s balance.
  • You will be mailed an EBT adjustment notice of the correction if it reduces your balance
  • If you do not feel the correction is accurate you may call Customer Service to request a fair hearing
  • If you notice an incorrect transaction on your account, call Customer Service
Using Your Benefits Illegally

You could be disqualified from the benefits program and may be prosecuted if you use your card for illegal purposes

Using your EBT card at a prohibited location will result in:

  • A written warning that the use of your EBT card in prohibited locations will result in the card being disabled.
  • If continued misuse occurs the cash portion of your EBT card will be disabled for one month.  You will be notified of additional options for receipt of payment, (direct deposit or KeyBank Prepaid Card).
  • If misuse continues your cash benefits will again be discontinued for one month.  You will be required to complete a new application after the one month period if you want assistance.
  • After the one month case closure for continued misuse, if you reapply, any future EBT card use at prohibited locations will result in the one-month denial/discontinuance and you will again need to go through the reapplication process
