Notice of Intent to Circulate Recall Petition Received by County Clerk’s Office

Pueblo, CO — The Pueblo County Clerk and Recorder’s Office has officially received a Notice of Intent to Circulate a Recall Petition regarding Pueblo County Coroner, Brian Cotter. This notice marks the beginning of the formal recall petition process as outlined in Colorado state law.

The members of the recall committee are:

  • David Jiron
  • Paulette Anaya
  • Annette Garcia

Next Steps in the Recall Process:

  1. Cost Estimate: The County Clerk’s Office will provide an estimation of cost to the recall committee within 3 business days. Printed proof of the recall petition must include a cost estimate per Colorado state law. 
  2. Approval of Printers Proof of Recall Petition: Upon verification that the printers’ proof of recall petition complies with all legal requirements, the County Clerk’s Office will issue a pre-approval of printers proof of recall election.
  3. Signature Collection Period Begins: Proponents will then have 60 days to collect the required number of valid signatures from registered voters within the relevant jurisdiction.
  4. Submission and Verification of Signatures: Once submitted, the Clerk’s Office will have 28 days to verify the signatures to ensure they meet the threshold and are from eligible voters.
  5. Certification and Potential Election: If the required number of valid signatures is confirmed, the recall question will be certified for the ballot, and a recall election will be scheduled in accordance with state law.
