PUEBLO, Colo. – The Pueblo County 10th Judicial District Attorney's Office is pleased to announce that today, a jury found Martinez guilty on all charges related to the tragic death of Renee Portillos in January 2024.
The prosecution presented compelling evidence over a 14-day trial, including testimony, phone records, location data, and autopsy results, all of which pointed to Martinez's guilt. Despite the defense's claims that Portillos shot herself while high on fentanyl, the evidence clearly demonstrated that Martinez was responsible for her death and the subsequent tampering with her body.
The jury deliberated for four (4) hours on three counts: first -degree murder after deliberation, tampering with a deceased human body, and abuse of a corpse. After careful consideration of the evidence presented, the jury reached a unanimous verdict, finding Martinez guilty on all felony charges. Martinez will serve life in prison without the possibility of parole.
