Our Commitment to Accessibility

Pueblo County is dedicated to ensuring equal access and opportunity for all. In line with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), we won't discriminate against qualified individuals with disabilities in any of our services, programs, or activities.

Effective Communication

We want everyone to participate equally in County programs, services, and activities. Upon request, we'll provide appropriate aids and services for effective communication for qualified individuals with disabilities.

Accessibility Limitations

The ADA doesn't require us to take any action that would fundamentally change the nature of our programs or services or impose an undue financial or administrative burden.

No Surcharge for Accommodations

We will never charge an individual or group with disabilities to cover the cost of providing auxiliary aids/services or reasonable policy modifications. This includes services like retrieving items from public locations that aren't accessible to people using mobility devices.

Technology Accessibility Statement

Pueblo County is committed to prioritizing digital accessibility across all platforms in accordance with Colorado House Bill 21-1110. This legislation requires that Pueblo County’s digital technologies, documents, and communications be accessible to all individuals, including individuals with disabilities, to ensure equitable access for all residents and employees.

Pueblo County is committed to accessibility and will align our web content with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1, level AA criteria. These guidelines help make web content accessible not only to users with sensory, cognitive and mobility disabilities, but ultimately to all users, regardless of ability.

Our commitment to digital accessibility is ongoing. Pueblo County will regularly evaluate this site and all digital assets to identify areas for improvement and implement enhancements as new technologies and opportunities emerge.

How We Are Implementing Accessibility

Website Testing and Remediation

  • We conduct automated and manual testing of Pueblo County webpages for Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1, level AA accessibility and compliance.
  • We continue to test and remediate our digital products to provide continuous improvement of our sites, applications, and communications.
  • In addition, we make use of tools such as Commonlook, Adobe Acrobat, Accessibility tools for Microsoft 365, other automated and manual testing tools.

Training

We provide accessibility training to all staff via coursework and regular targeted training. An intranet page dedicated to accessibility resources is also available to staff. We also provide links from the intranet to Colorado OIT's Guide to Accessible Web Services 

Procurement

We have developed systems and processes to ensure all digital products we procure meet established technical standards by including accessibility assurances in contracts, requiring vendors to complete a Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) also known as an Accessibility Conformance Report (ACR), and validating

  • Each request is reviewed on a case-by-case basis. We aim to respond to all communications within two (2) business days to begin the process for accommodations, addressing accessibility barriers, or providing feedback.
  • Reasonable accommodation or modifications are provided at no cost to the requester.
  • Accommodation requests that would impose an undue financial, technical, or administrative burden on Pueblo County may not be fulfilled as requested.
